If you’re a fan of the Fox TV reality series, “So You Think You Can Dance?” you might already know that producers and choreographers involved with this show spearheaded the creation of National Dance Day. And, as part of their efforts to encourage this national celebration of dance, they post routines for the public to learn through the Dizzy Feet Foundation.
Since we also happen to love this show and all things dancing, we always make sure to include these routines in our Philadelphia Dance Day schedule. So, here’s where you can learn them this year:
A jazzy line dance set to “Too Cool To Dance” by Eden xo, and choreographed by SYTYCD co-creator, executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe. Also, find a seated variation of the routine here.
Learn it in Philly: 11 a.m. as part of a beginner jazz workshop at the CEG Performing Arts Academy at Broad and Fairmount Streets. (684 N. Broad St.) Instructed by Diamond Edmonds, the current Miss Philadephia.
Official Hip-Hop Master Class Routine
A more challenging hip-hop piece by SYTYCD choreographer Chris Scott to Mark Ballas’ “Get My Name.”
Learn it in Philly: 4 p.m. at the Christian Street YMCA (1744 Christian Street). Instructed by Maya Sethuraman of Philly Dance Fitness, assisted by Miss Philadelphia.
Both of these classes are open to dancers of all ages. Adults must accompany children under age 14.
